Our Osteopathic Services.

When it comes to osteopathy, there are many avenues you can take. Osteopaths are trained in a variety of techniques and can be used in the management of a wide range of conditions. One theme you’ll find at Boroondara Osteopathy, is that we’re always looking to find out what the root cause of the problem is. We look at the body like a jigsaw puzzle, we are trying to piece it together to get the WHOLE picture.

We aim to tailor your treatment to YOU. Whether that be problems in the spine, arms or legs our goal is to help you find the best plan for managing your pain going forward. This can include hands-on therapy using joint mobilisation, stretching, massage, and more. We also might suggest some exercises you can do from home to get you on the road to recovery. We want you to be able to feel confident in your and our ability to get you back to doing what you love.

Stretches & Mobilising

We all know how easy it is to let tension linger throughout the body, but releasing pain and tension doesn’t always have to be hard. Our experience with hands-on body work allows us to work with you to identify how your muscles and joints are moving in relation to each other and re-aligning these tissues to allow you to move with ease, free of that pain and tension.

Craniosacral Osteopathy

Craniosacral therapy has gained interest in the community as there is a shift back to the wholistic approach to healing the human body. There a number of common symptoms people seek craniosacral therapy for including concussion, headaches, migraine, that not-quite-right feeling in vagueness, jaw pain, sinus pressure but we also use it to settle a body system down that feels like it is over-active or over-excited. If you are curious about craniosacral therapy then take a look at our dedicated page by clicking the craniosacral heading just above.

Tongue Tie & Osteopathy

Our therapists are trained in assessing tongue ties. Given we are a go-to clinic for breastfeeding mothers with issues in breast health such as mastitis, we always consider the potential of the baby’s anatomy contributing to the issues of recurrent breast problems. The tongue is an essential structure for feeding well, speech and swallowing and when impacted by a tie, can result in a variety of issues. Check out our page on tongue tie from the ‘Our Services’ tab above.

Pregnancy & Osteopathy

Changes in our bodies during pregnancy? Yes, of course! But added tension and pain in our muscles and tissues? Absolutely not! Our bodies are making rapid adjustments during pregnancy to allow baby to grow, and sometimes our muscles and joints may take a bit of a toll. Our experienced Osteopaths are here to help you to reduce the stiffness and tension in the muscles that can build up during pregnancy, with treatment tailored to your unique pregnancy.

Babies & Osteopathy

We see many babies in clinic for a variety of reasons. Sometimes the baby has a head-turning preference that may be from their position in utero, or some form of trauma felt during their birth. Other factors include how well a baby ‘unwinds’ post birth. Yes, babies have been bundled up inside for some time and their body must get used to being open in this new outside world. Symptoms of unwinding struggles can include reflux, constipation, imbalanced use of baby’s limbs when comparing side-to-side, unsettled disposition and maybe just a gut feeling from the parents that something doesn’t feel quite right. If you would like your baby assessed, then feel free to book online or call our lovely reception staff.

Anatomy in Motion (AiM)

Anatomy in motion provides a wonderful opportunity to look into WHY your body feels the way it does. Some clients come with specific chronic issues they cannot seem to be rid of, others come because an injury seems to keep impacting their ability to be active in their chose sport. Then we have those that just feel like they are wonky or out of balance in their body. Anatomy in motion is the detective approach to piece together how your history of body impacts (injuries, surgeries, scars, dental) results in the posture and mobility patterns you currently hold. Then work to re-balance your patterns with focused attention to the areas that have suffered most in the past. If you want answers, Anatomy in Motion maybe the approach you’ve been looking for.

Mastitis

There are just so many women who suffer mastitis, and not enough health professionals savvy to understanding how to treat it. This is one of our niche areas and a passion for filling this huge gap in women’s health that can change the direction of a woman’s breastfeeding journey. Our Osteopaths will treat the area of concern and show you the best way to treat it for yourself with the understanding of what’s going on in the background tissue of the breast. Whether you have your first episode or your 10th, our method will open your eyes to how much you can do for your own mastitis.
