The Perrin Technique

Looking for a Perrin Practitioner?
We have your answer.

The Perrin Technique, developed by Dr Raymond Perrin, is an osteopathic approach used to support the diagnosis and treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), and long COVID. Over the past three decades, this method has helped many people improve their health, energy, and quality of life.

What Is The Perrin Technique™?

The Perrin Technique™ is based on Dr Perrin’s theory that ongoing stress, whether physical strain, allergies, emotional stress, infections, or environmental factors, can overload the sympathetic nervous system. This system controls automatic bodily functions and is essential for healthy lymphatic drainage.

When the system becomes overloaded, the body struggles to clear toxins from the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Instead of draining efficiently through the lymphatic pathways of the head, neck, and spine, these toxins may accumulate. Over time, this congestion can affect normal nervous system function.

In people with ME/CFS, Dr Perrin believes this drainage issue becomes more pronounced, allowing toxins to flow back toward the brain and spinal cord. This creates a cycle of inflammation, toxicity, and nervous system dysfunction, contributing to the wide range of symptoms associated with ME/CFS, CFS, and long COVID.

Research Behind the Perrin Technique

Dr Perrin developed the Perrin Technique™ in 1989. His research shows that ME/CFS is linked to a buildup of inflammatory chemicals and toxins in the central nervous system, which affects the sympathetic nervous system’s ability to regulate blood flow, organ function, and lymphatic drainage.

This overload can develop gradually. Long-term postural strain, old injuries, emotional stress, immune challenges, or environmental factors may place stress on the system. Often, one final trigger, such as a viral infection or physical or emotional event, initiates dysfunction.

Every person’s combination of stressors, toxin load, and nerve sensitivity is different, which is why ME/CFS presents differently in each individual.

In 2017, researchers confirmed the glymphatic system, the brain’s lymphatic drainage system. This supports Dr Perrin’s early theory that disruptions in neuro-lymphatic flow contribute to ME/CFS.

Dr Perrin observed that many ME/CFS patients show structural changes along the head, neck, and spine that impair normal drainage. Even minor restrictions can lead to congestion, buildup of waste products, and ongoing symptoms.

Our Perrin Practitioner

Dr Elise Fuller (Osteopath) is a level 2 licensed practitioner of The Perrin Technique™. As everyone experiences the symptoms of ME/CSF, long COVID and fibromyalgia differently, it is important to Elise that each treatment plan is personalised to restore healthy lymphatic flow, improve overall function, and support long-term recovery for her patients.

What to Expect During a Perrin Session

Your first appointment includes:

  • A detailed case history
  • Assessment of key posture, movement, and lymphatic patterns
  • Physical examination of key areas affecting drainage and nervous system function
  • Demonstration of Dr Perrin’s home protocol

Follow-up sessions involve applying the Perrin Technique to stimulate lymphatic flow, reduce congestion, and support recovery. Patients also receive personalised guidance on posture, daily habits, and lifestyle changes to maintain improvements between sessions.

Key Components of the Perrin Technique

  • Manual lymphatic drainage: Encourages lymphatic flow and helps remove toxins from the central nervous system
  • Spinal mobilisation: Improves nervous system function and reduces pressure on lymphatic pathways
  • Cranial osteopathy: Focuses on the head and neck to relieve tension and support fluid movement
  • Postural and lifestyle advice: Supports ongoing healthy drainage and reduces the risk of symptom flare-ups

Benefits of the Perrin Technique

Patients often report:

  • Reduced symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, pain, and sensory overwhelm
  • Improved energy levels as lymphatic flow improves and inflammation eases
  • Better overall well-being physically, mentally, and emotionally
  • Greater capacity to return to daily activities and routines

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How quickly can I see results from the Perrin Technique?

Many patients notice improvements after a few sessions, though results vary depending on individual health, toxin load, and stress levels.

Is the Perrin Technique suitable for long COVID patients?

Dr Perrin has been able to adapt the knowledge and techniques to those diagnosed with long COVID, ME/CFS, and fibromyalgia, with patients noticing reduced fatigue, brain fog etc with improved lymphatic flow. Whilst his research has shown positive results for those with ME/CFS, and positive clinical observations have been made for long COVID, more research is needed in long COVID.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No referral is needed. You can book directly with Dr Elise Fuller.

Is it painful?

With these conditions, Dr Perrin uses the saying “Pain equals no gain”. The technique uses gentle, targeted methods and is generally well tolerated. Most patients describe it as relaxing.
