Our Osteopathic Services.

Our Osteopaths have been doing this job for years, collectively over 30 years.  Our dedicated group provides excellent physical treatment & prevention strategies, as well as a diagnosis in plain English for your particular problem, so you understand.  We have worked with thousands of people just like you to restore and rebalance their body whether it be muscular or joint related problems, ligament, tendon or disc. Being in such close proximity to Kew, Boroondara Osteopathy is a local clinic you can rely on for wholistic care.

Stretches & Mobilising

The most common misconception about stretching and mobilising is that the sole purpose is to improve our flexibility and range of motion. Whilst stretching and mobilising can do both of these things, it is so much more than just that! Stretching our tissues, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles can relieve that built up tension that may be causing you pain and discomfort. Our Osteopaths will work with you to re-balance and re-align your tissues, encouraging your tissues to work unitedly, allowing you to move with ease.

Craniosacral Osteopathy

The skull and cranial bones are an area that is often left out in treatment. However, it’s important to understand that your skull has unfused lines between the bones known as sutures. It’s between these lines that movement (or lack thereof) occurs. These lines are required to move, as slightly as they do, to allow for pressure changes in our skulls (like blood and fluid flow). A cranial osteopath will assess the movement in these bones to determine if they are a contributor to issues like jaw pain, headaches, sinus pain, and neck pain. The sacrum is also addressed in craniosacral therapy, due to its connections to the base of the spine. Our body follows a natural rhythm, and any disruptions to that rhythm and we may start to see changes throughout the rest of the body too.

Tongue Tie & Osteopathy

Our team of osteopaths are trained in the management of tongue ties, also known as ankyloglossia. Tongue ties are most often diagnosed in infancy, during breastfeeding, but are also picked up later in childhood, or adulthood. The tongue is an essential part of our anatomy, particularly around feeding (infancy), speech, swallowing and development, but it is often dismissed. At Boroondara Osteopathy, we work closely with reputable dentists when it comes to releases, assisting in soft tissue management and exercises of the tongue, lip and mouth.

Pregnancy & Osteopathy

It’s normal for our bodies to change and adapt during pregnancy, think about all the adjustments we are making to accommodate for baby! Fortunately for us, osteopathy is safe for pregnancy and can help our bodies to keep up with all the rapid changes occurring. Our osteopaths will provide you with pregnancy care, not only to rebalance your body through the use of hands-on body work, but by providing you with tips and tricks to manage your aches and pains at-home.

Babies & Osteopathy

Babies have so much going on in their little bodies right from day one! Sometimes the position they were in utero, or the way they entered the world can cause some strain through their tissues. Babies can display a head turning preference or have a slightly flattened head because of tension through their neck and skull. Reflux and constipation can also be a result of these strains in a baby’s body. Our osteopaths carefully assess your baby and help them to unwind the tension that is present in their system.

Anatomy in Motion (AiM)

Anatomy in motion is a movement based approach to treat your whole body, starting from the feet.  To get to the cause of your pain, we identify compensations that your body has accommodated in response to any injuries or traumas that you have experienced. These injuries could be as simple as a cut on your leg or as significant as a broken bone or major surgery. All these compensation patterns build up to be the resting posture that your body takes on every day. By unravelling all the layers of compensation in your body, Anatomy in Motion strives to give back any movement that you have been missing out.

Mastitis

Breastfeeding can be one of the hardest parts of being a new mum, especially when mastitis strikes! Breastfeeding challenges are so common, but many women feel unprepared, unsure what to do or who to see for such complaints. Our therapists will show you how you can help your own breast issues by understanding the breast anatomy and how it works. The treatment typically involves therapeutic ultrasound and massage therapy, along with some exercises to improve the overall breast tissue and prevent more issues arising later on.

Muscle Therapy

Massaging muscles is an important part of releasing tension surrounding joints. Our focused massage to your spasming muscles and trigger points aims to ease your symptoms and improve flexibility.

Joint Stiffness

The stiffness and pain that comes from a joint not doing its job can restrict body flow. We have the skill to release the segment, freeing up your movement.

Arthritic complaints are mobilised and massaged aiming to reduce tension and pain.

Posture

Is posture part of your underlying issue??  We’ll check it out looking at levels, movement ability and restriction to see why you hold yourself the way you do  AND what you can do about it.

Disc Pain

The cushions between your spinal bones

Our treatment can support the recovery from a disc injury by releasing tissue in the surrounds, the muscles and joints.  By reducing the compressive forces this way, discs have a natural ability to settle over time.  Our added use of ultrasound may assist in reducing the inflammation of the disc.

Tendonitis

Tendons attach muscle to bone.

Tendons are the ones that can suffer repetitive strain injuries (RSI) or overuse injury.  Our team know what is required to rehabilitate them so they stop giving you grief.  Ultrasound can help reduce the inflammation, treating surrounding structures to reduce strain and then the focus on the tendon recovery and re-strengthening.

Ligament Injury

The ropes holding the bones together.

A ligament injury occurs when a joint is stretched beyond its physical limits.  It hurts instantly, and is not something you should ignore.  Ligaments should receive direct attention and work to help re-balance the joint so that it does not become a future problem.
